Midwest/south Timber and Beam Supply

Expected Characteristics of Our Lumber:
At Midwest Timber Supply, we want our customers to be fully informed about the natural characteristics of wood. Cracks, splits, and checks are normal occurrences and should be anticipated, especially in products such as timbers, corbels, mantels, and slabs.
While slabs and mantels may exhibit small fissures, larger timbers and materials crafted from them, such as corbels, may have cracks up to 1″ wide. This is completely natural and adds to the unique character of the wood. Our front entry and showroom offer examples of the aesthetic appeal these features provide.
Regarding structural integrity, we have not observed that cracking or checking compromises the strength of the wood. However, we recommend consulting a structural engineer if this is a major concern for your project.
If you find these natural characteristics unsuitable for your needs, we’re happy to guide you toward alternative products that match your desired look.
For milled or pattern materials, such as flooring or car siding, cracks, splits, and checks are not acceptable. However, natural variations may occur. We recommend purchasing 10% more than you think you’ll need to account for occasional imperfections and potential waste. You may return any pieces that meet our return policy for a full refund or exchange.
While we strive to store our **pine timbers** under roof cover, exposure to the elements may cause areas to shift in color, turning yellow, brown, or silver. Additionally, during transport, timbers may accumulate dirt or road grime. Small separator pieces used in stacking may also leave slight marks on the timbers. Customers should expect some degree of discoloration or debris, but these factors will not affect the wood’s performance or its ability to take stain or paint.
If you are purchasing materials without seeing them in person, it’s important to understand that timbers may not arrive perfectly clean. If this is a concern, please request photos of the current appearance prior to delivery.
